Vaid’s collection consists of 25 saris, lehengas, and tunics all with similar prints. The price range is between 15,500 rupees to 23,500 rupees and fabrics include chintz prints, gota patti, and organza.

The film crew for the comedy drama Tumhari Sulu took over the Gopi Vaid workshop in Mumbai’s Lower Parel district and it ended up forming an industrial unit for the film’s set. This inspired Gopi Vaid to create the exclusive 25 piece collection directly inspired by both the film’s set and its main character.

“I loved the aesthetics of the movie. I loved the detailing that went through in doing the whole set. I really enjoyed the whole theme. That’s why I felt like I wanted to create something,” said Vaid. The designer decided to create an entire collection inspired by the film’s main character, Sulu (played by Vidya Balan), as she felt the character had a personality that both she and the brand could identify with. “Sulu is just a very real, bold Indian girl who doesn’t take no for an answer. She wants to live life to the most. And these saris are full of life,” Vaid explained.

The collection launched at the brand’s Kala Ghoda store and is now available there to shop.
