In an attempt to increase sales and to recover from their net profit falling last financial quarter, Godrej is passing on some of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) cuts that were announced by the GST Council after their meeting last week on November 17. Godrej will be lowering prices by between seven and ten percent for products including hair dye, deodorant, and other personal care items. Other products such as air fresheners and detergents in their household goods category will also be reduced in price.

Sunil Kataria, the Business Head for India and SAARC of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd said about the brand’s new strategy: “We are committed to passing on the benefits of the reduced rates to our consumers and have initiated a seven to ten percent price reduction on our products across hair colour, air fresheners, liquid detergents and deodorant categories. These reductions will be effective immediately and would also be applicable on our existing stocks.

“Our intent is to offer maximum support to retailers and wholesalers so that the switch to the new pricing is seamless and quick. We also plan to communicate these price reductions through advertising on relevant platforms,” elaborated Kataria. The brand will work with distributors to ensure that the new pricing is enforced. As many brands are trying to recover from the post-GST slump in the market, Godrej is rolling out one possible solution and consumers are waiting to see if other brands follow suit.
