Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette continues to expand internationally. After opening a branch in Istanbul, Turkey, planned for mid-May, and another in Doha, Qatar, planned for the end of 2017, Galeries Lafayette has reportedly set its sights on Iran, according to information received by FashionNetwork.com.

The French retailer would open a branch extending over three levels at the future Iran Mall, on the outskirts of the Iranian capital, Tehran. With a retail area of one million m2, the Iranian shopping mall is expected to be twice as large as the UAEs' Dubai Mall.

Altogether, the new mall is expected to host one thousand stores, whose commercial development was entrusted to French group NOX, as well as two hotels and several leisure complexes. Asked to comment on the information, Galeries Lafayette was not able to confirm it for the time being.

The Iran Mall is forecast to open in early 2018. The Tehran branch would become the Galeries Lafayette's seventh international store, after Berlin, Dubai, Beijing and Jakarta, and including Doha and Istanbul.
