Flipkart seller base doubles, fashion category sees maximum additions

The e-commerce major claims that the fashion category has seen the maximum addition of sellers followed by home-related segments. Flipkart is gearing up for its flagship event Big Billion Days (BBD) sale next month which is why sellers are queuing up to register themselves before the sale event.

"We have one lakh plus registered sellers. In the last six months, we have (seen) new sellers going live on Flipkart doubling (in number),” Senior Director Marketplace Nishant Gupta was quoted as saying by Business Standard.

"Entire fashion category has seen a phenomenal growth. In fashion, you have clothing, accessories, footwear. Then, we have also seen growth in home-related segments like furnishings, decor and household items. Even general merchandise items like toys and baby products have seen a lot of growth," added Gupta.

Flipkart is betting on its fashion vertical to drive sales, especially over the upcoming sale season, and is also focusing on private labels to expand its market share in the online fashion sector.

With a rise in the fashion seller base coupled with increased private label fashion brands, Flipkart expects its  fashion purchases to make up 50 percent of the whole Indian online fashion market’s gross merchandise value (GMV) during the five day BBD sale period.
