First lab-made diamond showroom opens in San Francisco

Silicon Valley-based Ada Diamonds opened the first lab-made diamond showroom in downtown San Francisco, signifying the market's departure from mined stones to the consumer preference for ethical and sustainable luxury.

Luxury Lab Diamond Showroom - Ada Diamonds

The new lab manufactured diamond showroom has opened in the Airbnb building in downtown SF. It is walking distance from many of SF's original start ups leading innovative business practices, such as Uber, Twitter, GoPro, Craigslist, and Salesforce.

Morgan Stanley predicts the lab grown diamond industry will make up 7.5% to 15% of global diamond jewelry sales in the next five years. Ada Diamonds formed as a response to changing customer preferences in the diamond industry. It stands for ethical, sustainable and socially innovative luxury jewelry.

Ada Diamonds co-founder and CEO Jason Payne said the company will always be rooted in e-commerce, but the company plans to open more showrooms in select global cities in the future. Payne said the company strongly believes man-made diamonds are going to become increasingly popular among customers.

Co-founder and Director of Sales Lindsay Reinsmith said of the brand's mission, "The word 'disrupt' gets bandied about far too much in the Silicon Valley these days, but if there is one industry that should be disrupted, it's the diamond mining industry."

Ada Diamonds was founded in 2015 and uses engineering and technology to offer a man-made alternative to traditional bespoke diamond jewelry. Ada Diamonds was named after Lady Ada Lovelace, a pioneering nineteenth-century mathematician, often regarded as the first computer programmer.

Opening a brick and mortar store in downtown SF is symbolic of the direction the apparel and luxury goods industries are headed. Silicon Valley-based company Brilliant Earth formed in 2005 and has a product line of conflict-free diamonds and engagement rings among other jewelry. It has seven showrooms across the US in cities including SF, LA, Denver and Boston.

On the whole, younger brands like Everlane are following in the footsteps of trailblazing brands like Patagonia to increase supply chain transparency. Consumers are taking a larger interest in the social and environmental impact of where their goods come from. Responding to these sorts of changes in modern consumer thought can help ensure a brand's success moving forward.

The new Ada Diamonds showroom is appointment only, and is located at 888 Brannan Street. Customers can build bespoke bridal orders starting at $5,000.
