All indicators point to solid growth: 5 percent more shoes sold, 10 percent more sales in store, a 46 percent increase in online sales. The Danish shoe manufacturer Ecco was once again able to maintain total sales at 1.2 billion euros, on par with 2015 results. Profits did decline, caused by fluctuating currency rates but may also be the result of its expansion activities, namely the opening of 100 new stores during the same period.

Dieter Kasprzak will resign from his position as CEO at Ecco at the upcoming meeting of the Board of Directors. "I am grateful for the important contribution my husband has made in the successful management of our company over the last 13 years," said board chairman Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak. "Dieter hands over a healthy and financially strong company, whose products and reputation we are all very proud of. I am also pleased to be able to confirm Steen Borgholm as the new CEO of Ecco," she added.

"Despite overall slow growth in the footwear industry worldwide, increased production costs and strong competition, Ecco 2016 achieved reasonable results and we were even able to increase our market share," Steen Borgholm said.

"2016 was a year of challenges, but taking into account the major changes in exchange rates, we  delivered acceptable results that reflects the great work of our company," said the new CEO.

Looking ahead, Borgholm believes 2017 will be another challenging year. "But because of many initiatives, increased investment and a strengthening of the entire organization, we expect the same result as in 2016," he said.

At the same time, Ecco is focused on attaining further milestones next year: the continued development of e-commerce and its in-store business to achieve a balanced omnichannel strategy.

The shoe manufacturer Ecco was founded in 1963 in Bredebro, Denmark. The company employs more than 19,000 people worldwide. Ecco shoes are sold worldwide through 3,300 own stores and over 14,000 shoe stores in 87 countries.
