Chawla will join Walmart India as COO Merchandising, Marketing and Omni-channel function from August and will report to Walmart India CEO Krish Iyer, a news agency reported citing sources.

"This appointment is in sync with company's plans to set up 50 new stores across India over the next three to four years," the source said.

Chawla had joined Future Group in January 2009 as the CEO for its private brands business and was elevated to CEO of Future Consumer in January this year as part of a wider management rejig at the retail group.

He has previously worked at billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Retail Ltd, beverage giant Coca-Cola and Asian Paints.

Walmart India owns and operates 21 best price modern wholesale stores in nine states across India.
