Nimish Shah, the designer behind the clothing brand Shift, has just stepped into homeware for the first time by launching a range of scented candles.

The clothing brand Shift has launched a line of candles - Shift

Nimish Shah is a designer known for his use of sustainable textiles, handloom, and fair trade and natural fibres. He expressed that he wanted to take this philosophy into homeware and has begun with a small range of scented candles for his “Shift Home” line. For the range of candles, Shah was inspired by traditional Indian ledgers and the candles have notes of pineapple, vanilla, musk, and patchouli. The design of the packaging is kept simple, much like Shift’s clothing designs.

“I was inspired by the Kharif crop (winter crop) for this collection. Unlike in western countries, our produce is still very seasonal. The Kharif crop evokes nostalgia—a nip in the air, the lingering smell of wood fire and the smell of seasonal flowers that is calming. I wanted these candles to evoke an in-doorsy feeling,” said Shah. When asked about future plans for the line, Shah said: “We are hoping to launch a second candle collection, called ‘Rabi’— a summer crop—next season. We are focusing our attention on candles for now.”

Shift’s candle collection is currently available in a selection of multi-brand boutiques that carry the Shift clothing line. These include Nappa Dori, Clove, and Le Mill. The collection will also launch in Goa and Jaipur in the near future.
