Chumbak, which currently has 22 stores across India, aims to more than double its total over the course of FY 2019. When speaking to Images Retail Bureau, one of Chumbak’s Co-Founders and CEO, Vivek Prabhakar, said: “Our focus will be Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai as we continue to grow deeper in these cities. Our next leg of expansion which will happen parallel… in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad as well as other Tier I cities. We are looking to close FY2019 at close to 50 stores.”

The brand has its own e-commerce site which is continuing to grow and on which the brand is increasingly focusing on. “We have recently implemented our ERP across the brand that now allows us to build our Omnichannel presence to connect our stores and Chumbak.com,” said Prabhakar. “This reduces ‘loss of sale’ at our stores due to inventory issues and helps push our online store more aggressively across our network of stores.” If the brands plans come to fruition, this FY will be a busy one.

Chumbak was launched in 2010 by the husband and wife team Shubhra Chadda and Vivek Prabhakar in Bengaluru. The brand began by selling small gift items and now caries products that span over 100 categories. The brand concentrated on retailing from kiosks and pop-up stores at places such as airports and theatres before moving into exclusive business outlets.
