CFDA names Marc Jacobs as womenswear designer of the year

The 2016 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards, held in New York in collaboration with Swarovski, named Marc Jacobs as the womenswear designer of the year.


Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Fashion Awards named Marc Jacobs as the womenswear designer of the year.


Thom Browne was awarded the menswear designer of the year while Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel won the award for the accessory designer of the year award for Mansur Gavriel, a high-quality Italian-made leather accessories label.

The Swarovski award for emerging talent was given to Brandon Maxwell for Womenswear and Alex, Matthew and Samantha Orley for Orley.

Beyonce won the fashion icon award, Norma Kamali received the Geoffrey Beene lifetime achievement award, and Donna Karan received the founder’s award at the event.

The media award went to Imran Amed of the Business of Fashion and Alessandro Michele of Gucci was recognised with 2016’s international award.

CFDA Fashion Awards is an annual event which recognises the outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry, with awards being given for design excellence in womenswear, menswear, and accessories and accomplishments in journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.
