Raag, a brand launched by the Ahmedabad textile designer Asha Sarabhai in 1975, revealed a collection over the weekend at Bungalow 8. The exhibition and pop-up shop took place at Bungalow 8’s Wankhede Stadium store in Mumbai on Saturday and Sunday. For the event, Bungalow 8 partnered with Beej, an online platform for sustainable products that is now the sole vendor of Raag clothing in India.

Raag’s “Malevich Collection”, showcased at the event, was inspired by the Russian artist Kazimir Malevich, the founder of the Suprematist art movement. The movement was characterised by the use of basic shapes and emotion and this inspiration was used to reinvent Raag’s classics. The collection featured reworked archival garments including coats, jackets, dresses, and tops. Garments have been entirely fabricated from natural, unbleached, and undyed fabrics.

Raag has a selection of its clothing in the V&A Museum’s permanent collection in London.

The brand started as a series of workshops in 1975 when Sarabhai worked to create clothing to last by using specialist textile techniques. Raag garments are now available on the Beej online platform.
