The owner of the ethical fashion brand Virtue + Vice, Melanie DiSalvo, has joined forces with the India registered charitable trust WomenWeave to raise awareness about garment production in India as she manufactures her garments in the country.

Virtue + vice was founded by Melanie DiSalvo in 2016 and the label produces sustainable fashion made in India. Every worker is paid a living wage, receives free medical care, has their children’s education paid for, and receives childcare.

The brand uses only single source organic cotton and natural fabric dyes. Garments are also made from India’s traditional and sustainable Khadi textile and the brand creates casual, simple pieces.

DiSalvo has created a video series interviewing workers at all stages of her clothing supply chain from weavers to fabric printers to seamstresses and asking them, “What would you say to the people who wear the clothes you make?” The video aims to raise awareness about sustainable fashion ad showcase her work in India. DiSalvo is scheduled to show the video and speak about the project and her own practices of ethical production at the upcoming SXSW festival in America.
