Bihar to modernize Khadi clothes with designer touch

Khadi clothes in Bihar will get the designer touch as the government wants to go for branding the finer quality Khadi to attract the "newer generation," said Chief Minister of Bihar state Nitish Kumar.

The minister made the announcement on Saturday at a function to mark the 'Rashtriya Charkha Diwas', in a bid to promote the khadi industry in Bihar.

Proper branding of khadi clothes would raise its demand among the people, the chief minister said, adding that the state Industries department has entered into an agreement with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) for "new design" khadi garments.

The state government looks to invest Rs-17 crore to set up showrooms for khadi garments and offer a 10 per cent concession on purchase of khadi clothes, he added.
