Amazon to add 3 new fulfillment centres in India

Online shopping firm Amazon on Friday said that it will set up three new fulfillment centres in India by year end.

The new facilities will add 1.5 million cubic feet space to the company's existing warehouse infrastructure in the country, according to Amazon India director, Noor Patel.

Noor Patel told reporters in Hyderabad that the new centres will open in cities with a huge demand for online sales. Amazon currently has 24 centres across 10 states, for a total area of 6 million cubic feet. Cities include Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Jaipur, Gurgoan, Ludhiana, Nagpur, Delhi, Coimbatore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

Amazon India has more than 1.2 lakh sellers offering 80 million products across various categories. Hyderabad is the fourth largest market for the company after Bangalore, New Delhi and Mumbai.

The latter has recorded the highest growth in terms of sales and number of customers.
