E-commerce company Amazon has announced opening of its first customer service centre in North India at Noida, near Delhi. This will be the company’s fifth such centre in the country, as it already has two facilities in Hyderabad, and one each in Pune and Coimbatore. The new facility will create several job opportunities for people in the northern region.

“The new customer service site will support Amazon’s India as well as global customers round the clock, with pre- and post-order customer service through various mediums like email, chat and phone. The sites will also host teams that provide support to Amazon India’s operations in the form of training, workflow etc,” Amazon said in a statement.

Amazon, which has recently completed four years of operations in India, is locked in an intense battle for leadership with homegrown e-tailer Flipkart.

The company has been aggressively investing in setting up fulfilment centres across India to ensure speedy delivery to consumers. It has 41 warehouses across 13 states. Its seller base in the country has also increased to 2 lakh from 100 in 2013.
