Amazon India is going all out to make sure that sellers on its platform are all set and ready to make a smooth transition into the Goods & Services Tax (GST) regime. The e-commerce firm has set up 16 ‘GST Cafés’ in 11 cities across the country to help sellers understand GST, the company said in a statement.

The Government has provided temporary relief to the e-commerce sector by deferring implementation of TDS/TCS provisions however e-commerce firms should be GST ready within two months post implementation of GST.

Through initiatives like GST cafes Amazon intends to reach out to its 200K seller base spread across India especially in tier 2 & 3 cities and prepare them for the upcoming GST regime.

The program will allow sellers to walk into cafes set up by Amazon and get expert advice and guidance from trained resources like Chartered Accountants or Account Managers.

“With just a few days to go for the GST roll-out, an in-person assistance is of utmost importance to help sellers with last-minute issues and details. We thus came up with the idea of GST cafes across cities to educate sellers about the new tax and its implications,” Gopal Pillai, Director & GM, Seller Services, Amazon India, said in a statement.

Earlier this year, Amazon had launched the ‘A-Z GST Guide’ programme that has trained & enabled thousands of sellers on the marketplace till date to get ready for GST.
