“Sriraman Jagannathan has decided to move on from Amazon for personal/ family reasons,” said Amazon India in a statement.

Earlier in the year, Jagannathan’s successor Nerurkar was made head of Amazon Pay and he replaced Jagannathan who was made head of financial services. Nerurkar will now again take over from Jagannathan in his new role.

Jagannathan first joined Amazon India in January 2016 after working for IDFC Bank as its chief digital and data officer. Jagannathan was also previously the head of Airtel’s mobile commerce venture and set up Airtel Money during his time there. The executive has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years and also has extensive experience at Citibank, Citicorp, and Citifinancial.

Amazon India is currently focusing on its financial sector, including financial services and payments.

The e-commerce giant is currently in a battle with Flipkart to be the largest e-commerce player in India. Now that Walmart’s Flipkart acquisition deal has officially been finalised as of this week, both businesses are U.S.-owned.
