The warehouses are spread across cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi and Hyderabad. It will help Amazon expedite the delivery speed to consumers in these cities.

"The expansion is set-up to ensure speed and enhance the delivery experience for the customer. With the launch of these `fulfilment centres', Amazon India has dedicated close to 120,000 cubic feet of storage space for AmazonNow deliveries in key metros," an Amazon statement said.

Amazon has been investing heavily in infrastructure and technology to meet the growing demands in the e-commerce sector in order to remain competitive with its rivals like Paytm and Flipkart.

Last year Amazon India had doubled its storage capacity with the addition of 14 new fulfilment centres to ensure faster deliveries and enable thousands of small and medium businesses to fulfil their orders in a cost-efficient manner.

The new warehouses will also be creating hundreds of jobs in these four cities.
