Amazon India Prime Day debuts in India

Amazon kicked off its first 30 hours long Prime Day in India at 6 p.m. on Monday, which will see multiple brands launching products online on Amazon for the first time.

Prime is an annual subscription programme for free and faster delivery for Amazon's customers and was launched in India in July last year - Reuters

 
“Prime members will be the first in India to be able to purchase exclusive products from the country’s top brands. Prime Day brings some of the biggest deals across categories like TVs, smartphones, fashion, appliances and many more. Our teams have been working for months to source these unique offers and are excitedly waiting for the first Prime Day order” Akshay Sahi, head of Prime, Amazon India said in a statement.

Amazon India also said that it will keep Prime membership fees unchanged for now as consumers from smaller cities are turning to prime in a big way.

Akshay Sahi, further said, “The company is not planning to raise Prime fees as of now as the programme is seeing rapid adoption across smaller cities”.

Prime is an annual subscription programme for free and faster delivery for Amazon's customers and was launched in India in July last year. Prime in India is priced at Rs 500 a year and almost 30% of the sales value on Amazon is generated by Prime members, the company said.
 
The number of items available on Prime has gone up to 2.1 million now from 1.3 million in less than a year.
