Adient and Arvind Ltd collaborate for textile production

The Indian textile manufacturer Arvind Ltd has partnered with the automotive seating business Adient to launch Adient Arvind Automotive Fabrics that will be based in Ahmedabad.

Adient Arvind Automotive Fabrics will produce high-end performance fabrics for automotive seating systems as a joint venture between Adient and Arvind Ltd. Adient is the majority stakeholder in the venture with 50.5 percent of shares and plans to include the company’s dealings in its consolidated financial statements. Both companies will be represented on the new company’s board of directors and will have a say in decision making.

“We are transforming our business quickly through technologies and partnerships that enable us to explore and create new opportunities across our business divisions,” said Punit Lalbhai, Arvind Ltd’s Executive Director. “One of our key pillars is to extend textile manufacturing into newer frontiers outside of fashion and into various spaces like human protection, construction and transport. This partnership is a watershed moment in this journey. The partnership will leverage Adient’s market presence and automotive expertise with Arvind’s textile manufacturing capabilities to provide customers superior and high-quality automotive seating solutions.”

Adient, which was launched as a business in October 2016 and is now present in 34 countries across the globe, specialises in seating for vehicles, especially cars. As Arvind Ltd is highly established as a textile manufacturer in India, although usually specialising in garment manufacturing, the partnership aims to bring together the expertise of the two businesses. “Adient is committed to delivering new value to our customers while enhancing our fabrics product portfolio through continuing advancements,” said the Vice President of Global Fabrics at Adient, Jef Vercammen. “This partnership with Arvind Limited gives us an exciting opportunity to do just that in India’s rapidly growing automotive market.”
