AIFW, which is currently running at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium until March 18, began on March 14 when the design duo Abraham & Thakore presented their latest collection, "Sadak Smart" (meaning “street smart”).

The collection, inspired by New Delhi’s street fashion, saw monochromes feature heavily, spiced up with prints and stripes. Styling saw the women sporting messy hair with bright hair pins and some of the male models had braided hair. The fusion wear collection showcased metropolitan Indian culture interpreted through the design lens of the brand’s founders, David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore, as sarees mixed with trench coats and trainers and kurtas mixed with smart shirts.

Speaking to IANS after the show, Thakore said: "Everybody says street wear but it never echoes our street. It's always about street of some other culture. So we thought of looking closer to our street instead of London, Paris or Moscow."

Modern Indian culture was also embraced at the end of the show when young audience members were allowed on stage to take selfies with the designers and models. "We wanted that to be a part of our show as everything is about clicking pictures and posting on Instagram. Even at the fashion week, designers' Instagram handles are given," explained Abraham after the show.
